Humidor will run against the super mare Winx in Saturday's Cox Plate as long as he pleases in his work on Tuesday morning.
Darren Weir said the Caulfield Cup's fifth-placegetter and one of its best-supported horses enjoyed a morning on Warrnambool beach on Monday morning and would only have to impress in a short workout on Tuesday for the champion trainer to pay the A$27,500 final acceptance fee, which is due by 8.30am on Tuesday.
"We're going to work him in the morning and see," Weir said.
"He's just having a stroll around tomorrow and Jarrod (McLean) will give me the heads up if he's happy with him.
"He just went to the beach in the morning. He's come through it good.
"I've just got to be happy with him and he's got to be well within himself."
Finding a rider might be a different matter as seemingly all of Weir's regular jockeys are suspended, including Humidor's usual partner Damian Lane, as well as John Allen, Ben Allen and Brad Rawiller, who failed to overturn a 14-meeting careless riding ban at his RAD Board appeal on Monday.
Mark Zahra rode Humidor when he was eighth in the Memsie Stakes second-up but he already has a Cox Plate ride in Gailo Chop.
Whichever jockey wins the ride on Humidor will have their hands full as the horse has laid-in under pressure at his past two outings despite the addition of a near-side bubble cheeker and tongue tie to his gear.
The trainer said a decision is to be made whether other gear - such as blinkers - could go on against the great mare on Saturday.
Weir was vocal in his condemnation of both Lane (Humidor) and fellow jockey Craig Williams (Amelie's Star) following the Caulfield Cup, claiming both horses were ridden too far forward in the race, leaving them with little at the finish.
"I don't hide my feelings," Weir said. "I am not going to sit there and say they rode them great. It was certainly not the right way to ride him (Humidor)."
If connections pay up for Humidor, officials at Moonee Valley are hopeful of an eight-horse field, which importantly allows for full each-way betting.
Likely acceptances for the Cox Plate include Winx, Folkswood, Gailo Chop and Happy Clapper, with decisions to come on the international pair of Kaspersky and The Taj Mahal and Seaburge. -racing.com
