Promising colt Karisto has pressed his claims for a trip to Christchurch.
The son of Written Tycoon is a $26 chance for the Gr.1 Al Basti Equiworld New Zealand 2000 Guineas (1600m) following his runaway victory at Te Rapa on Monday in the Total Mortgages 1400m.
“We’ll see how he comes through this and talk to the owners,” co-trainer Andrew Forsman said. “It was nice to see him get the job done and put them away like that, very impressive.”
Runner-up in all three of his previous outings, Karisto settled midfield on the fence before rider Opie Bosson, sporting the China Horse Club colours, was able to improve near the fence to be in front at the top of the straight.
He then angled wide for the better going and Karisto held a strong gallop for a comfortable victory.
