A former champion South African apprentice has opened his account in New Zealand.
Brandon Morgenrood struck his first winning blow when he was successful aboard Aongatete Express for trainer Gary Alton in the Nottingham Castle Maiden (2200m) at Te Aroha on Wednesday.
The 40-year-old rode nearly 500 winners in South Africa and he also enjoyed a successful spell in Mauritius.
