Plans for a Gr.1 Melbourne Cup (3200m) start for Chocante have been scrapped.
The Stephen Marsh-trained stayer raced below expectations when seventh in Saturday’s St Leger Stakes (2600m) at Randwick and he will return home on the first available flight.
However, Chocante raced creditably during his Sydney campaign with a third placing in the Gr.1 The Metropolitan (2400m) and he also ran third behind the champion mare Winx in the Gr.2 Chelmsford Stakes (1600m).
