New Zealand-bred filly Aloisia gives Aaron Purcell an early opportunity at Caulfield of a Group One victory in his new role.
He took charge last week of suspended trainer Ciaron Maher’s stable and on Saturday Purcell will run the daughter of Azamour in the Thousand Guineas (1600m).
“She’s probably going to be better suited over a bit further, possibly the Oaks, but there’s no reason why she shouldn’t run a really good race,” he said.
Formerly prepared at Matamata by Jason Price, Aloisia was runner-up in last season’s Gr.1 J.J. Atkins (1600m) and at her only appearance this term she closed well for fifth over 1400m at Caulfield.
