Tiger Tim has finally showed his worth in Australia after a deal to send him across the Tasman nearly three years ago fell through at the last minute.
Following a debut win at Otaki for Hastings trainer John Bary, the son of Alamosa was on his way to champion trainer Chris Waller only for a paddock accident to halt proceedings.
After time away, he returned to win three further races before breeder-owners Bill Gleeson and Peter Gillespie decided to send Tiger Tim to Moe trainer Peter Gelagotis, who produced the six-year-old to win over 2000m at Ballarat on Thursday.
“It’s taken a long time to get him back to what he was,” Gleeson said. “He’s a happy horse now and we thought he might make a nice country cups type.
“We’ve got another one over there with them, a horse called Meat Traders who they bought off us at Karaka and we’ve kept a share.”
By Pins, Meat Traders has a win and two placings from half a dozen outings.
