Swing Note’s maiden success at Riccarton has boosted her prospects for next month’s Gr.1 gavelhouse.com New Zealand 1000 Guineas (1600m).
The Encosta de Lago filly led all the way on Saturday to win over 1400m, an effort that saw her classic odds cut from $61 to $31.
“We were very pleased with that,” said co-trainer Jamie Richards. “Steve (Autridge) and I had planned to probably ride her a bit colder than that, but she jumped and put herself in the race.
“She dictated terms (in front) and was very good through the line which should enable her to get over more distance.
“Where we go to from here we’re not sure, but probably a mile around Riccarton should suit her nicely and she may go to the Zacinto Stakes there at the end of the month.”
