Group One-winning trainer Allan Sharrock also has a flourishing boutique breeding operation running alongside his New Plymouth stable.

He will shoot for four consecutive victories in Saturday’s Gr.1 Tarzino Trophy at Hastings with Kawi in prime order to complete a hat-trick of wins in the feature after Sharrock’s first success in the race, then the Makfi Challenge Stakes, came in 2014 with I Do.

The No Excuse Needed mare was raced by Sharrock and Waikato Stud principal Mark Chittick and the partners continue to enjoy success with her.

“Her first foal by Savabeel was sold to Bjorn Baker for $200,000 at Karaka and she’s also got a Savabeel colt,” Sharrock said. “She’s due to foal to Savabeel again and we’re hoping for a filly and we’ll keep her.”

The Taranaki horseman has remained involved with Madonna Mia, who won nine races from his stable including the Listed Wanganui Cup.

“She’s due to foal to Jakkalberry and then she’ll be going to Sweynesse,” he said.

Sharrock is also a part-owner of Gypsy Fair, who has been retired as the winner of seven races with her career highlight a victory in the Gr.3 Merial Metric Mile.

“She’s from a good family and she’ll be going to Reliable Man,” Sharrock said.

In the meantime, his racetrack focus is firmly on Saturday’s Hawke’s Bay meeting with stable star Kawi.

“He had a gallop on Saturday morning and he went over 1000 metres this morning and he worked well,” Sharrock said.

“We had a lot of rain and the track was quite testing. I would have loved a firmer surface for him, but he’s got the class and he’s done the work.

“I think he is ahead of where he was this time last year. I’m happy where we’re at.” – NZ Racing Desk.
