Circumstances allowed northern apprentice Shaun McKay to continue his association with the promising Ophelia Lee at Tuesday’s Foxton trials.
McKay was present to ride several horses at the request of Wanganui trainer Raymond Connors and took the opportunity to also partner Ophelia Lee, on whom he won twice last season, and Earl’s Court for David and Emma Haworth.
Both horses finished in behind the major players in their 1000m heats.
“We’re very pleased with Ophelia Lee, she’s strengthened up again,” Emma Haworth said. “She went well, but Earl’s Court didn’t cop the track. They will both kick off over 1600m, there’s no point running them over 1400, it’s too short.”
