Cambridge horsewoman Linda Laing hasn’t been surprised by the progress of Folk Tales in Australia.
She gave the New Zealand-bred Stravinsky gelding his early education and he was a trial winner for her before transferring to Richard Laming’s Cranbourne stable.
From the family of the Gr.1 Railway Handicap winner Alynda, Folk Tales was successful on Monday’s Darwin Cup undercard for the fourth win of his 10-start career.
“I pre-train for a number of good stables here and in Melbourne and we always liked Folk Tales,” Laing said.
“I had him for quite a while and he went over to Richard as a three-year-old. He was always going to mature into a beautiful stayer.”
