Little Avondale Stud's $775,000 NZB graduate Addictive Nature, who is a brother to Group One-placed gelding Savvy Nature, broke a 13-year-old class record on debut in the Pluck@Vinery Handicap (1100m) at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.
The son of Savabeel fired out of the barriers to sit outside the leader Music Addition, with Dream Charge making a line of three.
The trio set a strong speed throughout while Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott's Gold Standard stalked them in behind.
Soon after straightening, Addictive Nature ($2.50 fav) forged to the lead to record an impressive 1-1/4 length win ahead of Gold Standard ($3.80) which chased gamely, with a further head back to James Cummings' Schubert ($13) in third.
The two-year-old stopped the clock in 1:03.66, breaking the previous class record held by multiple Group One-winner Eremein by 0.17 seconds.
"Did it look as good as it felt?," jockey Tim Clark said. "He's a pretty impressive horse."
"He's trialled well and bounced on the bridle and he probably over did it a little bit today but he's got plenty of class about him.
"I think he was a little bit casual in his trials but under race conditions he really went to another level.
"Obviously, he's really well bred and a high-priced yearling. It's very important as a Savabeel to get a win as a two-year-old as far as his stallion prospects.
"Hopefully every time we raise the bar he can keep jumping it and go to the top level."
Bjorn Baker's stable representative Jack Bruce was impressed by the professionalism of the colt on debut.
"He's a real good looker and he's got the manners to match which I think is very important for a colt."
"He takes everything in his stride and even today the way he paraded before the race, and the way he handled everything was very impressive.
"We were up there and I thought, gee they are running along a bit sharp here but he's shown he can carry speed at home so in the future it will be nice to see him relax off a tempo and sprint, and I think he will get further.
"He'll improve a lot from this."
Bruce indicated a decision is yet to made on which race the colt may target heading into the spring. -racenet.com.au
