The New Zealand bred Liapari provided Hugh Bowman with part of a winning double at Warwick Farm on Saturday giving the jockey a late charge at the Sydney premiership title.
Bowman cut the margin behind Brenton Avdulla to 1-1/2 wins after the pair of victories.
Liapari, who Bowman has now ridden three times for a second and two wins, has proven "difficult" for Waller and his rider.
"He is a difficult horse and it has been a team effort. When he came to us, he was a stayer but my staff worked out that he is at his best at the mile," Waller said.
Liapari was prepared in New Zealand by Karen Zimmerman before crossing the Tasman in the middle of 2016.
"I've found Liapari is a peculiar fellow and you just have to put his mind on the job and get going sooner than you would with other horses," Bowman said.
"We have got a couple of wins with him and hopefully there is another one before the end of the month."
