Busy weekend for Moseley

Terry Moseley has a simple motto to explain his eagerness to head north and ride at Ruakaka on Saturday: "You can't ride winners sitting at home!"

The Canterbury jockey has a busy couple of days in store, with nine rides at Ashburton on Friday before trekking north to ride five at Ruakaka on Saturday, but the trip north is one he has done successfully in the past.

He rode at Ruakaka at the late August meeting in 2015 and returned home a winner after guiding the Kenny and Lisa Rae-trained Royal Raine to success in a maiden sprint.

It is the Rae family that is again behind Moseley's northern excursion this weekend, the stable providing the 1000-club member jockey with five rides.

"With a big book at Ashburton and then five at Ruakaka, it makes for a busy weekend, but it will be good to get up there. I haven't been up there for a while," Moseley said.

"At first glance, I've got some handy sorts to ride again. I'm on Kaharau and some form maidens - it's a nice book of rides."

Moseley has formed a formidable partnership with Kaharau, having ridden the Ad Valorem five-year-old gelding 12 times for four wins and four placings, among those wins last year's Listed Dunedin Gold Cup.

Waikato jockey Samantha Collett was aboard Kaharau for his fresh-up win at Ruakaka, but has opted to ride at Awapuni on Saturday to continue her association with Dolcetto, making way for Moseley to ride in Saturday's Northpine Waipu Cip (1600m).

"I've won four on him and it will good to get back on him on Saturday. It wasn't a big or strong field he beat last time, but he's on the comeback trail after a break from racing over 32000m so to return like he did was very encouraging," Moseley said.

"I haven't done my homework yet - I'll be doing that today - but at first glance it seems a similar sort of field, in terms of size and depth, so hopefully he can go as well again."

Joining Moseley on the trip north is premiership-leading jockey Chris Johnson, who has a full book of 10 rides at Ashburton and eight rides at Ruakaka. - NZ Racing Desk.
