Speedster pencilled in for Te Rapa

Il Cavallo - Bruno Cannatelli

Talented sprinter Il Cavallo may return to action on Saturday week.

Stakes placed on both sides of the Tasman, the six-year-old finished third in an open 1000m heat at Te Teko on Tuesday.

“He was gelded last year and he’s sound so we’ll try him again,” said Mark Fraser-Campin, who trains in partnership with his brother Chris Campin. “He’s a very fast horse, but realistically he’s going to take a couple of runs.”

He was originally purchased for stud duties at Chequers Stud, but fertility issues cut short his stallion career.

Il Cavallo won five races under Peter Moody’s guidance and was third in the Listed Norman Carlyon Stakes. His New Zealand black type credit came when he was narrowly beaten into second in the 2015 Listed Pegasus Stakes at Riccarton.
