Cambridge-based rider Will Gordon is prepared to travel far and wide in his pursuit of the jumping jockeys' premiership.
He has 12 winners to his credit in the title race, one behind frontrunner Aaron Kuru, and will head to Wingatui on Friday for one ride and then back up at Hastings the following day.
Gordon's southern trip looks likely to be rewarded with the Sean Cameron-owned and trained Go Go Gonzo a leading chance in the Noel Walsh Memorial.
"He's tough enough and the only slight question mark will be the step up in company, but he should cope with that," he said.
Go Go Gonzo placed in his first three outings over the smaller fences before he broke his maiden last time out at Timaru.
"He's no superstar, but he does jump well. He's honest and he'll grind it out."
Gordon has three rides at Hastings on Saturday and he rated the Te Whangai Romneys Hawke's Bay Hurdles contender Justa Charlie his best hope.
The Harvey Wilson-prepared jumper was a winner at Trentham two runs back and then finished a solid third behind Sea King and Upper Cut in the Awapuni Hurdles.
"He was hampered on the home turn by a riderless horse, I'm not saying he would have run second but he would have finished closer."
Gordon will also partner Hesalljazz in the Stella Artois Maiden Hurdle and That's How It Goes in the Just A Swagger Hawke's Bay Hunt Maiden Chase.
"Hesalljazz has been struggling a bit on the flat and I won a hurdle trial on him so he's half a chance if he does it all right," he said.
That's How It Goes will need a complete form turn around to be in contention after failing to beat a runner home in either of his last two starts. – NZ Racing Desk.
