Windsor Park shuttle stallion Pour Moi enjoyed Group One success in England overnight when his son Wings Of Eagles tore off an upset victory in the time-honoured three-year-old classic, the English Derby at Epsom.
Sent out at odds of 40-1, Wings Of Eagles charged home late to nab the well favoured pair in Cliffs of Moher and Cracksman with the New Zealand owned Eminent close up in fourth. The victory provided trainer Aidan O'Brien with his fourth Derby win in the last six years and sixth overall while it was a first for jockey Padraig Beggy who was having just his first ride in the race.
Wings of Eagles is from the second Northern Hemisphere crop of the Coolmore owned Pour Moi, who was successful himself in the 2011 Epsom Derby. Pour Moi shuttled to Windsor Park for the 2012 and 2013 breeding seasons and again in 2016 and is the sire of Gr. 1 JJ Atkins winner Sacred Elixir and recent Listed Great Northern Foal Stakes winner Haussmann. – NZ Racing Desk
