Wanganui three-year-old Flying Fred can keep himself in the running for a Group One start in Brisbane when he steps out at Ipswich on Wednesday.
"He's still in the Queensland Derby, but he would have to win to have any chance of making it," said J.J. Rayner, who trains the gelding with her father Evan.
"He's stepping up to 2200 metres and Larry Cassidy will be riding him."
Flying Fred was narrowly beaten last time out over 1600 metres at the Sunshine Coast.
"He's still green and he had no luck in the running – he should have won really," Rayner said.
