Wanganui trainers Evan and JJ Rayner will be striking on two Queensland tracks on Saturday.
While Start Wondering will be contesting the Gr.1 Doomben 10,000, down the road stablemate Flying Fred will be making his Australian debut in a class two $A14,000 handicap over 1400m at the Gold Coast.
"We had Flying Fred nominated for Doomben too, but we didn't think he'd get in so we settled on the Gold Coast," Evan Rayner said. "As it turns out he could have got in at Doomben, but he's better suited at the Gold Coast. It's a weaker field."
Flying Fred will be ridden by promising Queensland apprentice Jag Guthmann-Chester, who will be able to take 2kg off his 57kg handicap.
Flying Fred created a good impression when winning his debut over 1400m at Woodville last October and he has been nominated for the Gr.1 Queensland Derby (2400m) on June 10.
"I threw him in the Derby noms in case he won a couple over here," Rayner said. "He's a smart horse."
