Wide can work for Pride at Scone

It looks a horror draw on paper but jockey Patrick Moloney believes the outside barrier in Friday's A$200,000 Scone Cup (1600m) is a blessing in disguise for talented but frustrating mare Pure Pride (NZ) (Shocking).

The Murray Johnson-trained galloper boasts obvious talent - she was runner-up in the Gr.2 Blazer Stakes (1600m) and was beaten less than a length in the Gr.1 Myer Classic (1600m) during the spring - but has frustrated punters in several luckless runs this campaign, including when going down as a well-supported favourite at Flemington last Saturday.

Moloney, who was aboard Pure Pride for the only victory of her 12-start career at Ballarat in March last year, will renew his association with the four-year-old in Friday's Listed feature and is confident he can keep her out of trouble in the run.

"She's drawn wide but it could work in her favour for once," Moloney said.

"She's a horse that's going to appreciate a bit of room, unlike her last couple of starts where she's drawn
barrier one and been bottled up.

"She never really utilises a good gate anyway because she gets back but I'm hoping that we'll be going around them on Friday because we're too good.

"She's been a desperately unlucky horse throughout her career but she's placed at the highest level and has obvious talent." -racing.com
