Newton has made an encouraging start to his career and he has been tipped to make further progress at Matamata on Wednesday.
The Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman-trained three-year-old will make the third appearance of his career when he runs in the Matamata Glass & Joinery 2000.
The Authorized gelding coasted home to win over a mile on debut at Pukekohe and last time out he dead-heated for second behind Big Mike on a Premier day at Ellerslie.
"On form you would have to think Newton will be the horse to beat," Forsman said.
"He's a stayer of some promise and we're looking forward to him going over more ground."
He will be ridden by Opie Bosson, who is back home after riding Te Akau's Gr.1 Queensland Derby hopeful into second place at Ipswich on Monday.
Co-trainer Graham Richardson believes Four Degrees will be a better horse next season, but in his current form he should offer each-way value. He has finished in the money in three of his last four starts.
