The Te Akau stable of Stephen Autridge and Jamie Richards produced well-related colt Aquilo to break maiden ranks on a Heavy1 1 track at Rotorua on Wednesday in the Sweynesse 2YO (1230m).
Aquilo is a half-brother by Snitzel to Group One winning juvenile Marky Mark, and the colt's ability to handle wet ground provides some forthcoming black-type options.
Ridden by Opie Bosson, Aquilo was always prominent and had a head to spare at the finish over Ottavio, a son of Makfi that had looked useful at his previous two race day outings.
"Aquilo's done some nice work on wet tracks at home and there was a bit of a wrap on the second horse, so it looks a good result," said Stephen Autridge post-race.
"It looks like we've found a good wet tracker and there is a Listed race or two coming, so we will certainly have a look at the options."
