Australian plans for Pacorus will rest on the stayer's next appearance at Tauranga on Saturday week.
The Cambridge five-year-old's performance there in the open handicap over 2100 metres will decide his immediate future.
"That will tell me whether we go to Sydney or not," trainer Chris Wood said.
Pacorus, who holds an entry for the $A2 million Gr.1 Sydney Cup at Randwick on April 8, won six races during his winter and spring campaign.
The Tavistock gelding was a close fifth when resuming last month, but he was unplaced last time out in the Nathans Memorial at Ellerslie.
