The Auckland Racing Club is focussing on the silver lining from the dark clouds that have forced the postponement of their glamour meeting on Saturday.

This week's wild weather washed out the fixture and has resulted in it being rescheduled to Thursday when a seven twilight race card will feature the Gr. 1 Barfoot & Thompson Auckland Cup, the Gr.1 Bonecrusher New Zealand Stakes, the Gr.1 Sistema Stakes and the Gr. 2 Westbury Classic

"Up until four o'clock on Friday the track was a Dead 5 or 6, but since then more than 100 millimetres of rain has fallen with the forecast of more to come," chief executive Cameron George said.

"We made the decision after a track inspection at six o'clock this morning and now we're looking forward to a twilight meeting in Thursday.

"It's unique and it could be a bit of a test case – it could be the way forward."

Thursday's Group races will be complemented by a Rating 85 race over 1200 metres, a 2100m Rating 75 and a 1200m Rating 65 contest .

With the abandonment of Saturday's meeting, the TAB has refunded all futures and final field bets. – NZ Racing Desk.
