The Gr.1 Caulfield Cup is set for a break from tradition.
The Melbourne Racing Club are keen to ditch the 2400 metre feature's handicap conditions to make it a weight-for-age.
The change is mooted to make the Cup a more attractive proposition to the international market. The Melbourne Racing Club are yet to lodge their proposal with Racing Victoria, but it is believed the governing body has supported the idea.
The Caulfield Cup is currently run a week before the Gr.1 Cox Plate, which has the mantle as Australia's premier weight-for-age race, run at Moonee Valley over 2040m.
