On target for Westbury Classic

Rising Shot - Trish Dunell

Rising Shot showed she is on target for the Gr.2 Westbury Classic at Ellerslie on Saturday week when comfortably winning at the Avondale trials on Tuesday.

Ridden by Mark Du Plessis, Rising Shot was restrained to the rear of the four-horse field and swamped them to win by a length from Group One winner Sound Proposition.

"They walked the first 600 metres and she did it easily," trainer David Greene said. "She'll be ready for the Westbury Classic. Obviously the owner would love to win the race he sponsors."

Rising Shot, a four-year-old daughter of Red Giant, was bred and is raced by Gerry Harvey, owner of Westbury Stud.

Rising Shot has been freshened since finishing a solid fourth in the Gr.2 Rich Hill Mile at Ellerslie on New Year's Day. Beforehand she was runner-up in the Gr.2 Cal Isuzu Stakes at Te Rapa.
