Cambridge trainer Mark Brooks announced this week he plans to relocate to Ballarat towards the end of the season.

Brooks is a highly-regarded horseman in New Zealand, having represented his country in showjumping before taking up racehorse breaking and pre-training.

He currently educates a number of youngsters for some of Australia's and Singapore's top trainers at his Cambridge training base before they commence their racing careers.

Brooks has also trained a number of winners in New Zealand, with his horses winning nearly $900,000 and five group or listed races.

He has a passion for training jumpers, with his biggest winner so far being Jack Romanov, who won the Great Northern and Pakuranga Hunt Cup Steeplechase double.

The Ballarat Turf Club is building a 32-horse stable complex for Brooks, which will be located next to the recently-completed Cumani stables.

Brooks is moving to Ballarat with his wife and business partner Michelle, who was an extremely successful jockey winning more than 500 races.

Mark and Michelle will be bringing 15-20 horses with them from New Zealand and hope to add to their numbers with a few locally-owned horses.
