Taranaki visitor Malibu Miss will be on trial for a stakes mission when she chases an overdue win at Te Rapa on Wednesday.
The five-year-old daughter of Sufficient has won two of her 15 starts and been placed on a further nine occasions with three of those placings coming over 1600 metres in her last three appearances.
"She deserves to win another one," said trainer Sandy Dravitzki. "She's gone to the next step this season and been competitive. If she could win I'd like to run her in the Cuddle Stakes."
The Gr.3 Wentwood Grange Cuddle Stakes at Trentham on March 18 is over 1600 metres, the distance she will face in the Hooves, Grooves and BBQs 18th March 2017, a Rating 75 event on Wednesday.
Malibu Miss broke through for her first win over 1360 metres at Wanganui in January last year and was successful again three starts later when resuming over 1400 at New Plymouth last November.
"I had a few problems with her last year so I turned her out for a long spell and she's come back well," Dravitzki said.
Malibu Miss started her recent run of placings with a second to the promising Sin To Win at Trentham and third home in that race was Ali Baba, who won last Saturday at Matamata. She has chased home Prince Mambo in her latest two outings, being runner-up at Te Rapa then third behind him and Slice Of Cake at New Plymouth.
"Things didn't work out last start," Dravitzki said. "She needs to go forward. She's got a high cruising speed."
In the first two of those recent placings Malibu Miss was ridden by Matt Cameron, who will be back aboard this time.
Dravitzki has no doubt Malibu Miss can run out a strong 1600 with the right run.
"She's matured and is really strong this year," she said. "It's always been my intention to try her over 2000 metres and I could look at that later on. For now I'd just like to see her get another win." – NZ Racing Desk
