Highly-regarded filly makes Suzy smile

Suzy Gordon felt a great sense of relief when Margot opened her winning account at Woodville earlier this month.

The Foxton trainer has long held the daughter of Swiss Ace in high regard, but things hadn't gone entirely to script earlier in the season.

"She's always had a lot of ability and she went really well at her first start," Gordon said.

"I thought she would be unbeatable next time and I was gutted when she only ran fifth. We did her blood two days later and she had a virus."

That was back in October and after a good break Margot, who finished less than four lengths off Honey Rider when unplaced in the Gr.3 Gold Trail Stakes on debut, won at the Foxton trials in January before she broke her maiden in good style.

Gordon is now hoping her winning roll continues on Saturday at Otaki where she runs in the Mills Reef Winery 3YO.

"If she goes well then we might look at running her in the Wellington Guineas," she said.

"Obviously we want to get some black type for her and with that virus holding her up for four or five months there's not that much left.

"I think she will get a mile as well. She's such a big, laid back filly and it's hard to get a line on her in track work as she only ever does what she has to."

Rosie Myers rode Margot to win at Woodville and she will retain the ride at Otaki. – NZ Racing Desk.
