Phillip Devcich is hoping a missed run at Matamata on Saturday won't impact on his future plans for El Soldado.
The Cambridge trainer was forced to scratch the veteran stayer from the Listed Marks Ewen & Associates Kaimai Stakes due to a leg issue. The race was to have led the gelding into the defence of his Gr.1 Barfoot & Thompson Auckland Cup title.
"He's walking and trotting alright today, but I'll wait and see what the vet says when he sees him on Monday," trainer and part-owner Phillip Devcich said.
