A lighter version of the Group winner Amarula is now back in work at his Matamata base.
Last season's Gr.2 Hawke's Bay Guineas winner was injured and spelled following his fourth placing in the Gr.2 Tauranga Stakes in the spring.
"He strained a suspensory ligament and while he was getting over that he was getting too heavy so we made the decision to geld him," trainer and part-owner Peter McKay said.
"He's been back in the stable for a couple of weeks and he should be ready to go again in about six weeks."
McKay also has younger half-brothers by O'Reilly and Helmet to Amarula, who has six wins and nine placings from his 18 appearances.
