Black-type on radar for Consommateur

Cranbourne trainer Mick Kent believes lightly raced mare Consommateur has a bright future over ground after a strong win over 1500m at Sandown on Wednesday.

The four-year-old daughter of Roc De Cambes has been patiently handled by Kent and is the winner of two of her five starts with a further three placings.

Consommateur finished over the top of her rivals to win by 3/4 length, defying the on-pace pattern established earlier in the day.

"She's a staying mare and we've got visions of her getting over 2000m next start, so we didn't want to change her racing pattern just because the winners had been coming on-speed," Kent said.

"We bought her off Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young before they decided to come over here. She trialed well and Trent was quite effusive about her ability. She's out of a Zabeel mare and we like the sire — he's going well Roc De Cambes."

Kent is keen to target the Gr.3 Epona Stakes (1900m) at Rosehill on Golden Slipper Day and said the mare would relish rain-affected going.

"The Epona is the plan and she loves soft ground and she hasn't had that this time in.

"We've had a bit of luck in Sydney over the years and you get a bit of easing in the track which suits some of my horses," Kent said. – NZ Racing Desk.
