Trainer Matthew Brown and jockey Boris Thornton celebrated respective career milestones on Sunday, as brave on-pacer Kiss Me Ketut (NZ) (Danroad) delivered the goods in the Group 3 Vamos Stakes (1400m)at Launceston.
Victorian stables took the stakes double in Tasmania, and it was very nearly a double for Darren Weirand Damian Lane as Lyuba finished a narrow second in the $125,000 race - the pair having earlier combined impressively to win the Tasmanian Oaks with Parthesia.
But all honours in the Vamos went the way of Brown, 23, and Thornton, 19, via Kiss Me Ketut, who did her usual thing out in front and simply could not be chased down.
Thornton rightly saluted after the winning post. A regular visitor to Tasmania, Thornton has now ridden eight winners at the track but by far, this was his biggest.
A track upgrade just prior to the Vamos Stakes from a Slow 5 to Good 4 was just the tonic for Kiss Me Ketut, too - she's unplaced in four runs on a Slow track, while all her wins have been on a Good surface.
Kiss Me Ketut was one of the horses to salute when Brown had a breakthrough city double at Moonee Valley in November 2015, and now she's part of his highest-rated victory to date. -Racing.com
