Boom stayer Antonio Giuseppe (NZ) (Shocking) made his class tell first-up when dominating his opposition in the James Ruse Benchmark 88 Handicap (1500m) at Rosehill on Saturday.
In an ominous warning to his autumn carnival rivals, Antonio Giuseppe ($3.20 fav) made light work of seven rivals over a distance well short of his best.
Ridden by Tye Angland, the son of Shocking was brought to the outside in the home straight and swept to victory while initial leaders Strawberry Boy and Tower Of Song had a bumping duel.
Stewards decided shortly after the race that no rider could be held accountable for the incident.
Chris Waller said the Group I Sydney Cup (3200m) on April 8 could be Antonio Giuseppe's primary target this campaign but is mindful of giving the horse his best shot at races like the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups in the spring.
"The intention is not to have an over taxing autumn, the Sydney Cup is an option but we would prefer a light autumn," Waller said.
"The option is to go to 2000m next andthenwewill see where he is going.
"He is a horse that just keeps stepping up."
The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained Gold Symphony ($4.40) finished 1-1/4 lengths back in second while Godolphin's Alegria ($11) ran home into third, beaten another half-head.
