Bruce Tapper has two chances in his local feature on Saturday to open his black type account.
The Otautau-based horseman will stage a two-pronged attack on the Listed ILT Ascot Park Hotel Southland Guineas with his fillies Supatwista and Little Miss.
Supatwista will also present the stable apprentice Rahul Beeharry with a chance at his first stakes victory after he opened his winning account aboard the daughter of Guillotine on the course a fortnight ago.
"He's a 25-year-old from Mauritius and Gosen Jogoo organised him to come out, they're good mates," Tapper said.
"He rode the filly well the other day and that win earned them a chance in this."
Supatwista, who finished fourth at her only other start, has trained on well but Tapper admitted he was unsure about her over a mile.
"I've got no idea really, although there's nothing to say she won't run it," he said.
Tapper has no such worries with Little Miss, a maiden winner at Wingatui last month before she finished eighth in the Listed Dunedin Guineas.
"I left her a bit light the other day and didn't gallop her between her win and the Guineas so she was a bit underdone," he said.
Little Miss will be ridden by Krishna Mudhoo, one of four apprentices with rides in the nine-horse field. – NZ Racing Desk.
