Well known Australian trainer John Morrisey admitted he was feeling a little frustrated during the selling action at Karaka today.

The Gold Coast based conditioner had already secured four yearlings over the first three days of the annual NZB National Sale series but was finding the going a little tougher on Day Four. All that changed when Lot 881, the Tavistock colt from stakes placed mare Monkey Magic, made his way into the auction ring.

Consigned through the Cambria Park draft, the colt immediately struck a chord with the buying bench in attendance as the bidding action was fast and furious from the opening salvo. Morrissey disclosed he wasn't in the mood to be beaten for the colt after signing for him with a final offer of $160,000.

"It's been a tough day and I'd run second on a few this afternoon already," he admitted.

"I really liked this colt so I was determined I wasn't going to get beaten again."

Morrisey, who purchased a Tavistock filly at last year's sale, was quick to sing the colt's praises.

"He's a lovely horse with a real presence about him," he noted.

"I like the filly I bought here last year and this guy is another from the sire who looks like a real racehorse. He is a lovely well balanced colt we won't rush as he looks like a real three-year-old type."– NZ Racing Desk
