Waikato Stud's sale ring success rolled over to the opening day of the Select session when their son of Casino Prince proved to be a headline act.

The colt was signed for by New Zealand Bloodstock's Danny Rolston, who went to $180,000 on behalf of Hong Kong interests.

"They are existing clients and this horse will be educated and trialled here before he goes up," he said.

The only yearling in the catalogue by Flying Spur's Group One winner Casino Prince, the bay is out of the More Than Ready mare Contented and was bred by farm vet Dr Chris Phillips.

From the family of the former champion sprinter Takeover Target, she has a 100 per cent record at stud with all three of her foals to race having been winners.

Waikato Stud have enjoyed another satisfying sale at Karaka after retaining their title as the leading Premier vendor by aggregate for the fourth year running with 45 horses sold for an aggregate of $8,415,000.

"The main thing for us is to sell as many as we can because we own the majority of them outright," principal Mark Chittick said.

Their top lots were the daughter of Savabeel and the multiple Group One winner Daffodil, who went to the China Horse Club for $600,000 and that price was matched by Peter Moody to secure the Savabeel colt out of Spending. – NZ Racing Desk.
