Riccarton-based trainer Peter Rudkin and owner Terry Lines are reaping the rewards from a smart gavelhouse.com purchase last year in What A Deeza.
Bought from The Oaks Stud online for $3,700 in July, the Roc de Cambes mare has been quick to return more than triple her purchase price on the South Island circuit.
Over the 2200m trip at Wingatui last week What A Deeza recorded her second win for the stable. Not getting all favours being stuck three wide before jockey Samantha Collett took control and sent her forward, the combination hung on for a tough win with a half-neck in hand.
"We're very pleased with her, I didn't think much of her from the photo online but was pleasantly surprised when she got off the truck, she's a lovely big mare," commented Rudkin.
"Everyone who rides her comments on what a nice mover she is and we think that she might develop into a handy enough stayer who I believe we could even take to Australia in the long term."
Having pulled up well, Rudkin and Lines are now looking towards cups success this week with What A Deeza.
"She will be nominated for the Listed Dunedin Gold Cup this Saturday but she might not quite make the field so if not, she will head to the Invercargill Cup on Thursday instead."
From a full sister to Oaks winner Zagalia (Zabeel) in Snowmobeel What A Deeza's half-sister Snow Secret (Sakhee's Secret) has further enhanced her value since her purchase. Trained by Shaune Ritchie, in recent months Snow Secret has won and added more black type to their pedigree with her second in the Gr.3 Waikato Gold Cup.
