The not for sale sign has been hung around the neck of the Listed Gore Guineas contender Don Carlo.

The three-year-old, who has won two of his four starts ahead of Saturday's Liquorland-sponsored event, has attracted the attention of interested overseas parties.

"There's been quite a few phone calls about him, but the owner loves his racing and he just wants to race a nice horse," trainer Michael Daly said.

The son of Per Incanto is owned by Timaru farmer Rod Moore, who also had a racing share in Don Carlo's mother Turf Fire. She won nine races from Daly's stable and placed in the Gr.3 Stewards' Stakes.

"She was a good mare and she also ran fourth in the Gore Guineas," he said.

The winner of his only start as a two-year-old, Don Carlo was successful in Rating 75 company two runs back before he finished fifth after an interrupted run at Timaru last month.

"For a three-year-old to win out of his grade like he did at Ashburton shows he's a wee bit special and you could say he was a certainty beaten last time," Daly said.

"He was stuck back on the inside and it was only in the last 50 metres that he could get going."

Samantha Collett has ridden Don Carlo at his last two starts and she will again take the reins on Saturday, after which Daly has made no plans.

"We've set him for the Gore Guineas and we'll see what happens, but he could go out for a break after this," he said. "The owner is happy to wait so we're not in any rush with him." – NZ Racing Desk.
