The unkindest cut of all has turned Mongolian Wolf's form around.
He was a smart debut winner last season before his form tailed off, which convinced connections to geld the son of Pluck who was a first-up winner after the surgery at Rotorua on Wednesday.
"He's always showed the ability, but a lack of mental application was his problem," co-trainer Andrew Forsman said.
Mongolian Wolf got back in the running and he finished purposefully to nose out his stablemate and favourite Break My Stride.
"The key was that he got a better run and saved ground, it's good to get him back into form," Forsman said.
