Kawi enjoyed a winning outing at the Foxton trials ahead of his return to domestic Group One competition.
In his first appearance since his Perth campaign, the Savabeel gelding coasted home in his 1000 metre heat in the hands of Jonathan Riddell.
Trainer Allan Sharrock said Kawi would resume in the Gr.1 NRM Sprint at Te Rapa on February 11 and he would then run a fortnight later in the Gr.1 Haunui Farm WFA Classic at Otaki.
A decision on a trip to Ellerslie for the Gr.1 Bonecrusher New Zealand Stakes on March 11 and the possibility of another trip to Australia will be made after his opening two performances.
