Highden Park's Sam and Libby Bleakley have their sights firmly set on the Gr.1 Hong Kong Derby.

Last year the Palmerston North boutique establishment was represented by Werther, whose winning effort helped his dam and resident broodmare Bagalollies capture 2015-16 NZ Broodmare of the Year honours.

Last night, Highden Park graduate Beauty Generation, who raced in Australia as Montaigne, notched his first win in Hong Kong. The four-year-old son of Road to Rock ran second at his debut in Hong Kong over 1400m and stepped up to 1600m in the Violet Handicap on Sunday to score a hard-fought victory.

Libby Bleakley said Beauty Generation, who was sold for $60,000 through their 2014 NZB yearling draft, made an early impression.

"He was just so cool, we called him Style Child. He was very laid back and had a real air about him. It also helped that he was beautiful looking.

"He was purchased by Kylie Bax's Hermes syndications. It actually took some time to syndicate him so there are probably going to be a lot of people kicking themselves!"

Racing initially as Montaigne from the Anthony Cummings stable his three-year-old career saw him mixing it in the best company and not finishing further back than fifth from his seven starts.

In addition to two wins, he earned black type when second behind Tarzino in the Gr.1

Rosehill Guineas and also recorded a fourth placing in the Gr.1 ATC BMW Stakes.

Bleakley said the fact he was bred by Greg Tomlinson's Nearco Stud was particularly special to them.

"Nearco Stud started us off on the farm with their lease mares. It is so wonderful for them."

Trainer John Moore said the gelding will line up in the Hong Kong Classic Mile on January 22 on his way to the Derby in March.

Beauty Generation's win capped what has been a magic run for the Wellfield Stud stallion Road to Rock. During the past week the son of Encosta de Lago has also been represented by winning efforts from Cauthen's Power, Rock On, Haukland Beach, Funny and Falcons Beach.

Phoenix Park's NZB Select Sale draft to Karaka will feature a half-brother (Lot 1068) by Echoes Of Heaven to Beauty Generation. - NZ Racing Desk.
