Brothers Martin and Trevor Cruz got their timing spot on when they produced Heart Beat to win on Boxing Day.
Trackside at Ellerslie were the brothers' parents Derek and Angel, who races the Alamosa four-year-old.
"The family came out here for Christmas so it's lovely to win a race," Trevor Cruz said. "All the horse needed was a fast track, he likes it like concrete."
