Katelyn Mallyon showcased her judgement of pace to land Saturday's Ridgeview Park Thoroughbred Stud Handicap (1800m) at Sandown Hillside aboard Vandancer.

When the pace slackened before the home turn Mallyon had no hesitation is letting the Mike Moroney-trained Vandancer roll to the lead around the home turn and the race was effectively over.

Vandancer accelerated clear and Mallyon enjoyed the luxury of easing down over the concluding stages as Vandancer ($5.50 - $8.50) came home 2-1/4 lengths clear of My Sanctuary ($13).

Mallyon said the win by the four-year-old daughter of Savabeel was as comfortable as it looked.

"She was really impressive today," Mallyon said. "Talking with Anthony (Feroce) before the race he said she was probably looking for a bit further. She was bolting mid-race and with a fitness edged and just 54 (kg) she was really strong late.

"She showed a nice turn of foot and was strong late so I think she is only going to get better as she steps up in trip."

Anthony Feroce, racing manager for Mike Moroney, praised both mare and rider.

"It was a very good performance and credit to Katie Mallyon - it was a fantastic ride," Feroce said.

"She used her initiative when they slowed up and went around them in a ten out of ten ride."

Vandancer scored over 2100m at Sandown in April before finishing unplaced in the Group III South Australian Fillies Classic at Morphettville.

"She's always shown us good ability and we'll step her up in trip now, we were looking to go further today but there was no real alternative." Feroce said. -racenet.com.au
