Confidence is growing in Creative Genius' ability to successfully defend the stable's title in next month's Gr.1 Levin Classic.

The three-year-old is making good progress toward the Randwick Meats-sponsored event at Trentham on January 14.

Trainer Steven Cole won the race with Dukedom last season before the Bachelor Duke gelding's sale to Hong Kong interests.

The lightly-tried Creative Genius was a maiden winner two runs back and he then coped admirably with a rise in class to finish third in the Listed Trevor Eagle Memorial 3YO.

"From Dargaville to Ellerslie was a big step for him and he showed he was up to that class so it's very encouraging," Cole said.

"He'll go to the Great Northern Guineas on New Year's Day next and then down to Wellington for the Levin Classic."

Cole is also bullish about the future staying prospects of Creative Genius, who is nominated for the $1 million Gr.1 Vodafone New Zealand Derby.

"I think he will go over more ground and he hit the line strongly last time out," he said.

"The way he has been working is indicating that he'll cope well."

Meanwhile, Cole will have the promising two-year-old Peaceful Falls at Ellerslie on Boxing Day for the Auckland Co-Op Taxis 1100.

The youngster placed behind the impressive Excelleration at his first appearance last month.

"He's very professional and that winner goes really well," Cole said. "Our horse is paid up for the Karaka Million so all going well on Boxing Day he'll book his place.

"We've got 10 two-year-olds this season, including an unnamed one by Not A Single Doubt that we bought at the Ready to Run Sale.

"He's a really exciting horse and he'll go to the trials in the second week of January."

He was a $150,000 purchase and is from the family of the four-time Australian Group One winner Divine Madonna. – NZ Racing Desk.
