Volkstok'n'barrell has had an interrupted lead-up to Monday's Gr.1 Zabeel Classic at Ellerslie, but co-trainer Donna Logan remains optimistic.
A stone bruise forced him to miss a race at Tauranga and when he did resume in the Gr.1 Captain Cook Stakes at Trentham he lost his footing at the start before running home for sixth.
"I thought it was a very encouraging run," said Logan, who trains in partnership with Chris Gibbs at Ruakaka.
"He will be well forward with that run under his belt and I think he's better than he's ever been. He's also drawn well, which is always a big help."
