The addition of headgear has set Somethings Burning on fire and he is expected to give another strong account of himself at Ashburton on Friday.

"He's doing a really good job and since we put the blinkers on him he's grown another leg," Rangiora trainer Steven Woodsford said.

Somethings Burning is in career-best form and he will shoot for his fourth consecutive win when he steps out in the RD Petroleum Open, in which he will again be ridden by Racha Cuneen.

The Gallant Guru seven-year-old opened his winning streak at Timaru before he added further Rating 85 successes at Oamaru and Wingatui.

While Somethings Burning has yet to win beyond 1200 metres, Woodsford doesn't expect the gelding to have any problem going over more ground.

"He's got to go 1400 metres at Ashburton, but he'll be fine," he said. "He's a pretty tough horse and he's doing well.

"After this, we'll look at Kurow and then probably Reefton and Kumara."

Woodsford also has a strong hand in the Sealeswinslow Maiden with the in-form duo of Penny Perfect and Sweet Indulgence.

"They are both overdue and both of them should be picking up a race very soon," he said.

Neither can be faulted on the score of consistency with Penny Perfect finishing runner-up in each of her last three appearances while Sweet Indulgence has placed in three of her last four starts.

Woodsford also rates the chances of the Savabeel mare Zhanim in the Bevan, Gilbert & Norm @ CATR Rating 85. She drops back in grade after finishing out of the money in her last two runs at Riccarton.

"She's a pretty handy stayer and she had seasonal problems at the cup meeting," Woodsford said. – NZ Racing Desk.
