Stephen Autridge and Jamie Richards will keep a Group One option open in the New Year for the well-bred Splurge.
The Matamata trainers produced the Thorndon Mile-nominated Savabeel gelding for an impressive first-up success at Hastings on Thursday with Fastnet Fire later completing a winning double for the stable.
"Splurge is a beautiful horse and he'll run next in a Rating 75 at Ellerslie on Boxing Day and we'll see what happens, we haven't ruled out the Thorndon," Richards said.
A $500,000 Karaka yearling, Splurge is a half-brother to the Australian Group Two winner Shopaholic and to the multiple Hong Kong winner and Group One placegetter Packing Pins.
"Fastnet Fire took a few starts to win her first one, but she looks like she can now make her mark in some better races as well," Richards said.
