Rich Hill on a winning roll

Shocking
Shocking

Rich Hill Stud have enjoyed a satisfying week with resident sire Shocking on a hot streak while the farm-bred and owned Desert Storm made a perfect start to his career at Hastings on Thursday.

New Zealand Derby hope Carmino Rocoso won for Shocking at Ellerslie on Wednesday while the stallion's daughter Verna Audrey was successful at Wingatui before the exciting Love Shock struck in Hong Kong.

The four-year-old Desert Storm is trained by Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman who dominated the twilight meeting at Hawke's Bay where they also produced the impressive debutant Street Ranger and the lightly-tried pair of Tomelilla and Princess Sapphire to win.

"Desert Storm had a setback as a yearling and he couldn't go through the ring," Rich Hill's John Thompson said. "We bred him with Peter Merton, a friend of mine, and he was keen to race him.

"We had him in work as a three-year-old, but he went shin sore after trialling. He's by Zabeel out of a Pentire mare so the time hasn't done him any harm and he looks quite exciting."
