Kylie Little has an ambitious plan in place for her lightly-tried sprinter Lucyinrio.

The Opaki trainer is keen to test the five-year-old in Group One company, but her hopes are dependent on two successful visits to Awapuni in the coming weeks.

"We've put in a nomination for the Telegraph and we would love to get her there, but first she'll go to Palmerston North in two weeks' time.

"She'll then go back there again three weeks after that and she'd have to win both of them to have a chance."

Lucyinrio broke her maiden at her third start at Hastings in July before she was given a break.

"She'd won quite a few jump-outs early on and she's always showed us a lot of ability," Little said. "She's quite quiet and cruisy to ride in her trackwork."

Lucyinrio returned from a spell for two placings, one behind the talented Francaletta, during the Hawke's Bay carnival before Little stepped the one win mare out in Rating 85 company at Trentham on Saturday.

The daughter of Captain Rio gave a bold account of herself before going under by half a head to Unconquered.

"She was meant to go to Wanganui, but that got abandoned, and she had a gallop during the week with Alby MacGregor's Blathwayt," Little said.

"He's a stayer, but he's a very good galloper and she had him off the bit so we thought we'd give it a go.

"She's come through the race extra well and she's been squealing and bucking since then."

Lucyinrio is raced by her breeder, retired Masterton stock agent John Griffith and he also has the mare's half-brother Red Sunset in the stable. He has won twice on the flat and once over hurdles.

"It's funny really – one is a good stayer and the other a good sprinter," Little said. – NZ Racing Desk.
