Exciting mare Rising Shot added her name to the list of potential finalists for the inaugural Dunstan Feeds Rising Stars Championship (1500m) at Ellerslie on Boxing Day with a stunning performance in one of Saturday's qualifying events for the series.

The David Greene trained four-year-old overcame a somewhat tardy start to swamp her rating 75 rivals over the concluding stages of the 1400 metre contest. The victory followed a similar performance to her last start win at Te Rapa and has the Red Giant mare tipped for higher honours in the near future.

"It was a great win today as Kelly (McCulloch) has relaxed her nicely and then boom," noted a delighted Greene after the contest.

"She's been doing a great job but that was a big step up for her. There were some nice horses in there including the favourite [Hiflyer] so to go out and do that today, well maybe she is a black-type horse.

While Greene has the final of the Rising Stars Championship on the mare's agenda he is keen to see her take her chance in stakes company for her next assignment.

"She's three from three now at 1400 metres so a mile might be even better for her," he said.

"The Rising Stars is the target but I might have to get a couple of drinks down Russell tonight and he might let me run in the Cal Isuzu in a fortnight."

Greene was referring to Westbury Stud General Manager Russell Warwick who manages the bloodstock interests of Stud owner Gerry Harvey, who bred and races the mare. The Gr. 2 Cal Isuzu Stakes is a $100,000 1600 metre weight-for-age contest for fillies and mares that will be run at Te Rapa on the 10th of December. - NZ Racing Desk
